Learning Objectives

This course is designed to teach the learner:

  • About the different types of human rights included under the Human Rights Act of 1998 and how those rights are applicable toward dental patients
  • Methods used to ensure and obtain lawful consent, as well as who is able to provide consent for individual patients, if they are unable to do so themselves
  • What to look for and who to contact for support, if there are doubts that a patient is able to provide consent for themselves

 that pertain to dental care
  • Define the three types of consent and when they should be obtained
  • Obtain valid and legal consent at each stage of patient treatment
  • Dictate the information that should be disclosed to a patient at the time of obtaining treatment consent
  • Identify whom should be contacted if the practice doubts a patient's ability to provide consent
